What sorts of evil are we getting used to?
-David Dark, The Sacredness of Questioning Everything
I recently finished a book that I have been working through for the past year. The Sacredness of Questioning Everything by David Dark, a book that calls us to a deeper spiritual practice by questioning the norms in our world.
Something that stood out to me is the above quote. What sorts of evil are we getting used to? It’s a haunting question. Every day I am getting used to evil. I am becoming more and more desensitized.
Because evil is easy to get used to.
Every decision I make can support evil or work towards good. It’s not always simple black and white, but in some ways it is. Where do I place my money? Where do I spend my time? My thoughts?
As we strive to practice good, the opposite of that good is ever present. We are used to the small occurrences of it in our everyday lives. We don’t even notice.
What sorts of evil are we getting used to? Today. Right now.
May we begin to be aware.
